2021 wasn’t what I was expecting…

Another year has passed, we’re now in the year of 2022. Looking back to 2021, I’ve realized how terrible the year was, both for me and the whole world.

I’ve made too many promises about things I could achieve in 2021, and now I know I am unable to achieve most of it due to various different reasons.

At the start of 2021, everything was going pretty smoothly for me, until around March, when I got a notice about having to end my work contract early due to heavy labor cut from the bosses, then I started panicking, wondering what job I could possibly be switching to.

On 9th April 2021, my work contract was coming to an end. I had lost my job as a computer engineer. It was a pretty emotional day for me, having to say farewell to everything that has been with me for the past 3 years, including my coworkers and the office itself. Over the next month or so, I had applied for multiple different jobs for positions as computer engineer, and I heard nothing back from anyone. I didn’t really know what I should do, until around late-ish May, when I got a job offer at the same company that I worked for back when I was a computer engineer, but instead, I had to work as a printer repair technician. I had doubts about the job, but still ended up giving it a try as I was still struggling to find a new job at the time.

On 1st June 2021, I started my new job at the same company, everything felt familiar yet exotic at the same time. I had to get used to waking up a few hours earlier for work, faced with stress from my supervisors and customers, and having to work overtime very frequently every week. At first, it was still fine for me, but as time went on, I started having both mental and health issues, leaving me with no options but to keep taking sick leaves from work, which had a massive impact on my income.

Back in early November 2021, one of the companies that I had originally applied for a job actually replied to me and offered me a position at their company. I was very surprised giving how long ago that job application was. At first, I didn’t accept the offer, but as my health started getting worse from working too hard, I decided to accept their offer and went for 2 separate interviews, they actually really liked how much knowledge I have in the IT space and decided to hire me, so I just quitted the old job with 1 month of notice period.

I quitted my old job on 24th December 2021 (right on Christmas Eve), and I needed to take a mental break from work, so I told the new company that I can start working on 3rd January 2022, and they were fine with it. We’ll see how the new job goes, hopefully less stressful than my old job. Fingers crossed.

That, was the reason why I couldn’t stream or work on Minecraft modding updates. I am sorry to those who were looking forward to my next streams or new updates on my Minecraft mods, hopefully when things start settling down in the next few months, I’ll be able to stream and push out new updates for my Minecraft mods again.

I know that Minecraft 1.18 modded is already out at this point, but the truth is, I simply just don’t have the time to keep up with the updates. I’ve heard that 1.19 is gonna be out sometime in 2022 as well. So, don’t expect frequent mod updates from me for now. I was looking into passing the projects that I currently have on hand to other more capable fellow modders, but everyone else were just as busy with their own mods as they were, and I didn’t want to add more workload for them. Maybe if my new job is less stressful, I will be able to work on the mods again, but who knows, we’ll see what happens.

As for my streaming situation, it’s still pretty unclear whether I’ll still be streaming in the near future yet or not. Even if I stream, it’s not gonna be the same as before, expect to see shorter length and more variety streams as I got really burnt out from Minecraft and exhausted from work.

Ever since I quitted part-time modding on Twitch back in early 2019, things haven’t been the same since then. I started focusing more on work, then there were political riots in Hong Kong back in mid to late 2019, and then COVID came right after that in early 2020. Two years later, COVID is still not over yet, there’s this new virus variant called Omicron, and it started to spread here too… Things are just a mess right now.

I am really hoping in 2022, things can start going back to normal, the overwhelming amount of stuff that I have to deal with is really making me very stressed out. I just want to live a normal life, as we all do.

Thank you for taking your precious time to read this blog post made out of mostly my personal rants, see y’all soon for another update.

Stay safe,

-Jacky
